If only people could be as passionate about world events as they are about football.
Thousands of people will gather to see a small group of players kicking a ball back and forth across a patch of grass getting so passionate, yelling, screaming, crying.
The England vs. Croatia match was on in the same room as I was in and I watched all those people utterly crushed by the loss. But what have they really lost? I just don't understand it at all, it's meant to be a game, nothing more.
If only all that energy were put towards something else that would really make differences in the world, other than something that is really just a distraction from the worlds problems.
If only all that money were to go towards the worlds problems too for that matter.
If only thousands of people would gather to support protests and such.
Edit: 03/02/08
I understand that I should have wrote more in this post, I'm not really proud of it but it was how I felt right at that moment in time.
I guess with anything in life it would be nice if there were a balance.
I do know that sports bring a lot of happiness to people. It's just not that big a deal to me and I think that there must surely be more to life than football. You just wouldn't think it when on the news they sometimes talk about the football before world tragedies.
